One time Registration is required to attend weekly study sessions that will last the duration of the semester.

View the PLUS Calendar for days/times. Sessions, typically, start between the second and third week of the semester and will be posted just prior to that.

How to make the most of the Learning Session

  • You will benefit the most if you are prepared.
  • You should have read related materials and attempted or completed the problems, homework, or the project.
  • You should focus on what it is you need help with prior to session.

This will save time and allow the Peer Lead to spend time helping you through the learning process rather than trying to figure out what the issue is. Come to the Session with a focused issue or specific questions regarding the subject.

Please bring necessary materials:

  • Book
  • Computer
  • Prompts/instructions
  • Syllabus
  • Notes
  • Calculator/other instrument etc

All of this will help you with your work and help the Peer Lead better understand the assignment or issue.

PLUS Services

The PLUS Calendar shows sessions that are available for the semester. Check schedule often as changes do occur. Note day/time/room--We hope to see you in session!

Types of Sessions

Study Groups<--Pre-Register for semester long study groups for specific SSHA courses. Save your space!

Walk-in Sessions--Limited number of sessions available without registration or an appointment

Online Sessions--Currently Unavailable--Limited number of subjects/sessions available online

Future Offering--By Request Sessions:

Three types--Small Group, Large Group & By Request Study Group

Students can request a Small Group or Review Session to prepare for exams with friends for 50 minutes.

Students can request a Large Group or Review Session for a course and make it open to anyone in the course. It would be promoted by the instructor too.

Students can organize a By Request Study Group of friends and/or classmates who will commit to meet for one or several sessions.

Self Help

If there is no session for the subject you need help with, you have options:

  • Go to instructor office hours
  • Visit the TA
  • Join/create a study group

Be Proactive

You can also ask questions in class. It is very likely that if you have questions about class or ideas/concepts, other students do too.

Take a few minutes to get to know your peers in class, and ask if they would like to form a study group.

The most efficient study groups have a purpose, and its members have a function:

  • Consider the location when meeting (learning environment that is non-distracting);
  • Decide on a group focus for each session (maintain purpose and focus on learning);
  • Assign roles to members (task oriented so everyone has responsibility).
